Und: Die Truppe wird immer älter, das Durchschnittsalter stieg von 32,4 Jahren Ende 2019 auf 34 Jahre. Högl fordert: „Die personelle, materielle und infrastrukturelle Ausstattung der Bundeswehr muss schnell besser werden.“ Dafür braucht es mehr Geld! UND: Das Geld, das da ist, müsse besser ausgegeben werden. ► So seien im letzten Jahr nur 50,3 Milliarden Euro aus dem insgesamt 52 Milliarden Euro umfassenden regulären Verteidigungshaushalts genutzt worden. Außerdem waren rund 19,8 Milliarden Euro aus dem Sondervermögen bereitgestellt worden. Zwar streiten SPD, Union und Grüne aktuell noch über die konkrete Ausgestaltung der Aussetzung der Schuldenbremse für Wehrausgaben. Dieses Geld werde dringend benötigt, so Högl. Allein im Bereich der Infrastruktur liege der gesamte Investitionsbedarf bis Ende 2024 bei rund 67 Milliarden Euro.
